What is a Credit Union?
A Credit Union is a not-for-profit, democratically controlled financial institution whose main goal is to satisfy the financial needs of its members. Unlike banks, whose primary purpose is to provide a profit for their shareholders, Credit Unions are "member owned" and operated. A Credit Union is more concerned about doing what is best for its members while at the same time providing unmatched service and value.

This means that excess earnings are returned to the Credit Union members in the form of lower interest rates on loans, higher yields on savings and investment accounts or in the form of new products and services. In short, when you save, borrow and invest with your Credit Union, it directly benefits you.

History
1st Priority FCU is a full-service financial institution serving employees and their family members of the Rochester Institute of Technology. The Credit Union was founded in 1979 by a group of ten individuals, each depositing five dollars. They all shared a vision of fulfilling their financial dreams. This spirit of resourcefulness lives on today. Over 2600 members have currently amassed assets exceeding $7.0 million dollars and still growing.
